Expeditions

At BSO, we believe that a meaningful Outdoor Education program guides students to Live in Wilderness Environments, Learn through Expedition and Adventure and Lead oneself and others through challenge.

The close friendships and cooperation between our students, staff, parents and alumni lie at the heart of BSO. A host of events and activities are offered by and for all the people that form the fabric of our multicultural and multilingual community. Through the diverse selection of activities offered by the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA), families form friendships, parents support learning opportunities and staff and students are buoyed by a common purpose. Events such as the popular Food Fair & Fun Fair community and the surrounding neighborhoods in a gala of food. After graduating, our students remain closely connected to their school days with visits to campus and participation in school events as part of a growing network of alumni. Indeed, some have returned as staff members, while others now have children at the school.

An integral part of the curriculum, BSO Expeditions are age appropriate, rigorous and stimulating to provide opportunities for our students to pursue a balanced and wholesome education.
Through outdoor pursuits, camp craft and adventurous journeys in wilderness, students have rich opportunities to make connections and transfer their outdoor education skills and knowledge to and from the classroom and everyday life. All students are guided in making gains in learning through active engagement in our scaffolder and cohesive program. Environmental education is inherent to BSO Expeditions which also include cultural exploration and service opportunities; all of which are developed in the classroom and reinforced in an expedition setting.
