Eco Literacy Initiative offers a broad framework that encompasses a number of different ideas and approaches to learning in, for or about the environment, in pursuit of sustainable development.
The purpose of this initiative is not to debate the different definitions, but to encourage a shared acceptance of the diversity of learning approaches. BSO therefore, offers a brief description of environmental education approaches and offers a simple classification to help to navigate your way through the different activities we are performing in school.
One way of understanding environmental education is to see it as education that engages learners with nature, encourages them to ask questions about the environment, and engage with environmental change. This means that environmental education is not just concerned with spreading messages about the environment, but it also provides opportunities to enhance learner understandings, question environmental problems and take action for environmental change in pursuit of a sustainable development. Therefore, the classification we offer is tentative and open to change.
This programme emphasizes on evolving an understanding of the Earth as a physical system and the living environment including human and societies with in the landscape. We have engrossed in this course a familiarity with some basic modes of inquiry, critical thinking and problem solving skills and accentuated to shape an ability to interpret and synthesize information.
This one of its kind initiative that incorporates an understanding of the ideals, principles and practices of citizenship in order to participate in resolving issues. The aim of this initiative is to:
